Seven E-commerce trends that every Kenyan Marketer should be aware of

February 3, 2021

If you have been following our series of articles on the rise of E-Commerce, then you are aware by now that Digital is no longer a kid on the sidelines. With recent events such as Covid 19 further accelerating the importance of Digital, the onus is now upon Marketers to invest in making Digital a key element of their business growth strategy.

Joel Rao, CEO at iProspect, a leading Kenyan Digital Marketing Company, shares seven trends that point to the future of E-Commerce.

  1. Leading E-Commerce players such as Amazon and Jumia are going into Brick and Mortar.
  2. The influx of Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence is making E-Commerce sites smarter at predicting Customers’ purchase intents.
  3. Voice assistants are just getting started. Joel’s 3 year old daughter doesn’t know how to write, but she already knows how to go on youtube and voice the words ‘baby shark’.
  4. Growth in visual search i.e. using images to search as opposed to words.
  5. Augmented reality is getting bigger in the corporate marketing space
  6. Content is the new Commerce. Powerful content inspires consumers while lowering the cost of acquisition. Not only does it foster a community, it also fosters loyalty.
  7. Specialist shops by small scale Artisans and niche SMEs such as groceries being driven by platforms like Alibaba and Amazon.
