January 22, 2021We will be lying to you if we said that this one article will tell you everything you need to know about HR as a business leader. However, these 5 stages will give you a blue print of what to put in place in your HR policies, as shared by Catherine Wekesa, CEO at the International Talent Management Consulting Limited,
The typical HR cycle has five stages, which are recruitment, remuneration, retention, processing and record keeping and termination.
- Recruitment
This is where you send out job vacancies, shortlist candidates among those who have applied for the job. Conduct interviews to determine the best person for the position. Hire that person and give them a contract.
- Remuneration
This stage mostly has to do with salary and benefits. There is the normal salary you have to pay to all your employees. Then you have to deal with commissions when it comes to the sales people and the various benefits of the ones in management.
- Retention
Once you employ someone how do you ensure that they achieve the goals of the organization. You may consider training them; you can pair them up with another employee that will mentor them. You can closely monitor their progress so as to find out their strong and weak points which will dictate the roles you assign them in future. This has to do with things that will grow your employees’ skills
- Processing and record keeping
There are some employee files that you should always have. These include their bio data, their curriculum vitae from when they joined and others such as their NHIF details. These files are considered to be confidential. Also the performance appraisal records, how are you saving your employees files? Is it recorded and if so how is it kept?
- Termination
There comes a time when as an entrepreneur you have to let go of an employee, so how do you do your termination? Is it disputed or did you come to an agreement? When it is time for an employee to retire, what are the right procedures to follow? During this Covid period are you dealing with redundancy and if so how are you handling it?
