The myth of overnight Success is just that, a myth
July 14, 2020It’s easy to conclude that most of the big names in industry had the so-called ‘overnight’ success. The optics never quite tell the story. All that glitz and glamour hides the behind-the-scenes that goes on and the multiple pain points one has to jump over.
Jackee Ombajo, Principal CEO of Trublaq Entertainment passionately reiterates how consistency and patience is what has paid off eventually. “Growth was slow”, she says retrospectively. She muses how pitching to the same potential clients for years straight since 2001 had them growing some thick skin, something entrepreneurs need more than they can admit. Knocking on the same doors, re-strategising and tweaking their pitches, having the people behind these same doors call them back for briefs and pitches that never seemed to bear fruit, until they scored. They were young, and passionate and on the days the light dimmed out, the hunger to build Trublaq to the powerhouse it is today kept them on their toes, kept the momentum going.
She humorously says how the big wins are not the easiest to get, and you can tell, it’s a statement laced with the magnitude of what hard work and patience can do. Despite the fact that even years later in 2015, when a new player jumped in the game and almost displaced them with their overarching financial muscle and equipment access, they did what they had to do to maintain their edge, face their greatest fears, head on and keep playing the game.
