Tools of trade. Deciding which ones to invest in could make or break your business

August 25, 2018

As founders some times we get caught up in the hype or what’s the latest, or what’s cool, what’s the competitor using.

In manufacturing for instance where your Machinery may seem like everything, it’s not significant whether you use a European or an Indian machine for your business. What really matters is the machinery efficiency, ability and maintenance.

In most cases, Africans always assume that American European machines are the best because of their expensive nature. Faraz Ramji advices that this is not the case. There are no good or bad machines, because at the end of the day it all comes down to good machinery maintenance and breakdown maintenance.

How, why, and when should one maintain their machines? A machine is like a car, take care of it regularly through good services and it serves you longer. Mismanage it, and it breaks down and goes into a vegetative state.

In the case of Mr. Ramji, having both a mechanical and electrical engineer who have a regular maintenance schedule works for him. For Urban Bitez, it’s the quality of the raw material that matters, the distribution and the quality of packaging. The type of machine used in this case is irrelevant, just as long as it is working properly and does not suffer from lack of good maintenance.

Invest wisely in your tools of trade.
